Happy Wednesday, Friend!
It’s been a pretty nutty year, hasn’t it? I could name all the ways that this year has challenged us, but, frankly, I don’t want to. You already know that. And the ways in which this year has unfolded for YOU, are deeply personal.
It’s so easy to feel off-balance right now, which is why I want to share a “twisting” grounding exercise with you.
Are you ready? It takes less than 2 minutes and you can choose the position that would feel best to your body, or try all three:
SEATED in a chair… put your right hand on your left knee. TWIST around and look at the space behind you. If it feels good, REACH further with your left hand on your right hip. And finally, use your eyes to further OPEN into the twist.
Stay here for a few breaths, then release and pause in neutral.
Repeat on the other side.
SEATED on the floor… with both legs stretched out, BEND your left leg and place your foot on the OUTSIDE of your right knee. Take your right elbow and use it as leverage against your bent knee as you TWIST to your left.
Stay here for a few breaths, then release and pause in neutral.
Repeat on the other side.
LAYING on the floor… with both legs stretched out, BEND your left leg and ROLL to your right side, so that your left knee is aspiring to be on the ground (it’s okay if it doesn’t make it!). As much as possible, keep your shoulders on the floor, and still ALLOW your spine to LIFT and TWIST.
Stay here for a few breaths, then release and pause in neutral.
Repeat on the other side.
After you have twisted, and released, I would love to share this poem with you:
She Let Go
by Rev. Safire Rose
She let go. Without a thought or a word, she let go.
She let go of the fear. She let go of the judgments. She let go of the confluence of opinions swarming around her head. She let go of the committee of indecision within her. She let go of all the ‘right’ reasons. Wholly and completely, without hesitation or worry, she just let go.
She didn’t ask anyone for advice. She didn’t read a book on how to let go. She didn’t search the scriptures. She just let go. She let go of all of the memories that held her back. She let go of all of the anxiety that kept her from moving forward. She let go of the planning and all of the calculations about how to do it just right.
She didn’t promise to let go. She didn’t journal about it. She didn’t write the projected date in her Day-Timer. She made no public announcement and put no ad in the paper. She didn’t check the weather report or read her daily horoscope. She just let go.
She didn’t analyze whether she should let go. She didn’t call her friends to discuss the matter. She didn’t do a five-step Spiritual Mind Treatment. She didn’t call the prayer line. She didn’t utter one word. She just let go.
No one was around when it happened. There was no applause or congratulations. No one thanked her or praised her. No one noticed a thing. Like a leaf falling from a tree, she just let go.
There was no effort. There was no struggle. It wasn’t good and it wasn’t bad. It was what it was, and it is just that.
In the space of letting go, she let it all be. A small smile came over her face. A light breeze blew through her. And the sun and the moon shone forevermore.
Ahhhh. Beautiful, isn’t it?
Now grab your journal and answer these questions in a way that feels right for you:
Journal:
Right now I am feeling…
I’m curious about what it would be like to let go of…
My self-care intention today is…
I’m grateful for…
with love to you,
Jenny
