In this over-zoomed world, I’ve become fascinated by somatic, or embodied, coaching.
It’s one of the topics that I’ve spent a lot of time on in my continuing education, which is really important to me as an ICF-certified coach.
In a nutshell, somatic coaching means exploring information from the body instead of just the mind.
Like this client…
She showed up “flooded with stress” from a toxic work meeting.
Rather than plowing forward with our planned topic, I guided her through a breathing exercise to help settle her racing thoughts.
She was then able to turn her attention to the sensations she was feeling in her body – and from there she got grounded into a place of clarity on how to move forward.
I’ve used this approach when clients feel stress, overwhelm, excitement, or any strong emotion. Guiding them back to their bodies helps them process and move forward.
It’s a powerful way to gain clarity and a sense of peace.
