What my orchids are teaching me

AKA a lesson from my orchids

Hi Friend,

I am an amateur plant person: more enthusiast than expert.

After much trial and error, I now have a collection of plants that fill my space and bring me genuine joy.

Most of my houseplants are foliage plants, with one exception: I really love orchids. They are showy, delicate, and easy to care for — if you create the right environment.

A couple of times a year, I bring home a new orchid with a vibrant spray of bright flowers. I enjoy the elegant blooms, the cartoonishly large leaves, and unruly roots that expand beyond the pot.

Inevitably, after a few months, the flowers drop, and the plant becomes smaller and subtler. I love how easy it is to care for an orchid, but I admit: I’m disappointed during the dormant phase.

Yesterday, I noticed that the orchid I’ve had the longest, Reba, has multiple little sprouts along her delicate stem.

And it reminded me how deep changes can take root with every coaching conversation, like:

🌱 Navigating conflict to break out of the seed.

🌱 Clarifing values to feel more deeply rooted.

🌱 Defining goals to begin reaching for the light.

🌱 Strengthening boundaries to prevent being overshadowed.

🌱 Challenging the status quo to develop a sturdier stalk.

🌱 Trusting intuition to synthesize our experience.

🌱 Upleveling self-care to store energy in our core.

🌱 Slowing down to enter a season of vital dormancy.

Just as a plant grows in the right environment, people can too.

Growth isn’t a straight line.

And when you have the support of a coach to help you, you may not even notice the growth at first, but then all of a sudden you do.

✨ Your internal dialogue can get kinder.

✨ Your promises to yourself are finally becoming sacred.

✨ You can let go of old expectations that were draining your energy.

✨ You can navigate setbacks without the usual spiral of self-doubt.

✨ You can stand up for your needs without the old reflex to apologize.

✨ You can find your voice and advocate for yourself with confidence.

✨ You can find a smoother rhythm in the way you connect with others.

✨ The rush to ‘get through the day’ fades, replaced by a quiet, grounded presence.

Much of the work of coaching is beneath the surface, invisible to the world for a while.

Yet, YOU can feel the shift.

🌷 And the more you feel the shift, the more momentum builds.

🌷 And the more that momentum builds, the more your people start to feel it, too.

🌷 Because you are nourishing everyone in the ecosystem with your growth.

With love,

Jenny
