I’m not one to get too excited about goofy holidays on the calendar. But a few years ago when I learned that July 24 is International Self-Care Day I put it on my calendar with a BIG star.
This year, July 24 is on a Sunday. If there is any day of the week that is asking for us to slow down and take care, it’s Sunday.
My delight expanded when I discovered that July 30 is International Day of Friendship. That means next week is bookend with two things that are essential to our wellbeing: self-care and connections with friends.
In case you’d like some help filling up your cup, let this be your invitation to plan to practice self-care and celebrate the gift of friendships.
Even though I have built solid self-care practices to help me feel more centered, more joyful and more present in my life, I love the idea of being intentional about self-care with others around the globe. And while I have a solid network of friends, the ongoing pandemic and slower lifestyle has made it hard to make (and keep) plans together.
If you need some suggestions, download my Self-Care Inspiration list with more than 100+ self-care ideas my clients have shared with me over the years. Use this list as an inspiration to find your OWN joy this week (and beyond!).
…You may want to move your body, because that would feel really good.
…You may want to rest, because your body is fatigued and you’ve been going-going-going for so long.
…You may want to plan a reconnect with some of your people because laughing, being seen, heard and understood feel like a balm to your soul.
Whatever you do, consider this an invitation to TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF and do it!
So what am I doing to celebrate this week of self-care and friendships?
I’m going to allow myself to BE.
BE in water.
BE in the moment.
BE with my girlfriends.
BE by MYSELF.
Mark your calendar and make space to fill up your cup. And if you are so inclined, hit reply and let me know: how will you show yourself some love this week?
And if practicing self-care feels tricky or uncomfortable, know that you aren’t alone. I have worked with hundreds of people to help them understand their needs and practice the art of authentic self-care.
