Can you tell I’m an avid reader? 🙂 I always have a pile of both fiction and personal development books nearby. And, I love to both give my clients book suggestions and get book suggestions from others!

This time of year, as you prepare to take your summer vacation – or even to slow down while the weather heats up – I wanted to share a few books I like and what I find moving about them.

Here are a few books to inspire your summer reading:

Real Self-Care, by Pooja Lakshmin, MD

I highly recommend this book for all of us wanting more authenticity in our self-support. It’s a great lesson on how to practice “real self-care” that meets our individual needs. The message is compassionate: Your stress and overwhelm is not your fault, and by practicing real self-care, you join the revolution.

All That You Deserve, by Jacqueline Whitney

This beautiful, accessible, and affirming book of poetry was given to me by a dear friend, and now I’ve given it as a gift to several more friends. It speaks softly to the tender parts of us that sometimes need to be reminded that we are worthy and loved. Read it in one sitting, as I did, or leave it on your nightstand for daily love reminders.

Daisy Jones & The Six, by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I bought this book on a whim at the airport and made my 7+ hour flight delays so much better! The story is loosely based on Fleetwood Mac’s rise to the number-one band in the world. With flashbacks and unreliable characters who don’t want to tell us the whole story, I was charmed and now find myself thinking about the book any time I hear a Fleetwood Mac song. (After you read it, check out the mini-series on Netflix. But of course, the book is better.)

Book of Longings, by Sue Monk Kidd

This fiction book has been on my shelf, quietly waiting for me to pick her up, for years. And when I finally did, I couldn’t put it down, and now I have to tell you about it. The concept is provocative – part of what I loved about it – and is the story of Jesus’ wife. After reading the few pages, I was completely enthralled. The writing is poetic, lyrical and radiates love. We don’t need to be historians, theologians, or have any specific faith background to appreciate this powerful story of a woman who brings about change by being her authentic self.

The final chapter of Point Taken – “The Gift of Margin” by yours truly.

I am so proud to have written the final chapter of this best-selling multi-author book. In my chapter, I share some personal and professional stories that have shaped my coaching and life. I take a fresh look at self-care and define margin as the space between what we carry and our capacity.

If you’ve read one of these books and it really resonated with you, hit reply and let me know!  And if you add one of these to your summer reading list, please let me know what you think.

Stay tuned for more reading recommendations in the coming newsletters.

Happy reading,

Jenny
