I was honored to be a return guest on the most recent Mom & … Podcast episode talking about the “Power of a Pause.”
The podcast was created by Susanne Kerns and Missy Stevens, who are both “moms and so much more,” as they say in their intro. The Mom &… Podcast is aimed at guiding Moms through everything that happens in the ellipses (the … of our lives), from career decisions to emotional health. I appreciate that they guide women through the challenges that ALL mothers face — both personally and professionally — with wisdom and humor. I’ve gotten new ideas out of every episode I’ve heard!
In this episode, we talked about the importance of taking a pause – planned or unplanned – and how many times if we find a little pocket of time, we don’t know what to do with it. We are run so ragged that we feel frustrated, exhausted or guilty…and then like that time was “wasted.” Ugh.
I shared a little about my recovery from my concussion last year, and how I changed my self-care practices to support myself in the aftermath. I am fortunate: when my accident happened, I already had a strong self-care practice. But even with strong habits of caring for myself, I struggled.
That experience was part of the inspiration for me to write the “How to Give Yourself a Mini-Retreat,” my free gift to help you pause and slow down.
One of the things that made this podcast so engaging was that Missy and Susanne recently downloaded my “Mini-Retreat” workbook and we answered the question: how exactly do people with too many responsibilities give themselves a *meaningful* break?!
As usual with Susanne and Missy, the conversation was both personal and universal.
In this episode we explore:
- What happens when we are forced to pause
- How to be honest with ourselves about what we really need and practical ways to get those needs met
- The truth about what gets in the way of taking a pause, and, most of all
- How to create a meaningful, nourishing pause for yourself.
