As I was reflecting on 2018, I had a very powerful realization and had to check my memory. I stopped what I was doing and dove into my notes from 2014 when my business was sparkly-brand new and I was working with my first clients.
I found the Vision statement I wrote for my business. At the time, I was working my way through my ICF accredited coaching program. The very first sentence of my page-long aspirational document reads:
I envision a thriving coaching business with a steady stream of referrals because the work my clients and I do has a meaningful positive impact on their lives.
And, there is something extra significant for me about this fact: more than 60 percent of the clients I coached in 2018 alone came from client referrals.
Sixty percent. Pinch me.
I am grateful and honored to have contributed to my clients moving forward. It inspires me every day to coach people through their personal and professional transformations. And, I am equally grateful and honored that they were motivated to share my name with their people.
It felt lofty at the time (truth be known: it still does!), and I feel so grateful to realize that this is now a fact of my business, just four and a half years later.
It is meaningful to me that having a specific vision for referrals for my business from the beginning. I believe this clarity helped align me with my bigger purpose: to help as many people as possible to transform their lives and the lives of those around them.
As I think about the power of a clear vision, I want to invite you to consider: what do you really want for yourself? What would you LOVE to be true about your life in five or ten years?
