Many times we don’t stop to celebrate.

Like my client A. who is a financial planner. She had a HUGE goal, worked doggedly towards it for six months. She eventually surpassed the original goal. She didn’t know how to acknowledge the achievement and laughed uncomfortably at the thought.

Or my client J. who has a business beyond her dreams which she built from hard work, divine timing and a passion for helping others. In one recent session, she realized she has never stopped to reflect and truly celebrate the life she has created because of her business achievements.

Or my client M. who wonders if it is self-indulgent to stop, reflect and feel pride for a job well done. “Who does that?” she asked.

I get it. I don’t often stop to celebrate either.

I’ve bought a nice bottle of wine to celebrate an important milestone, only to leave it in the wine cooler for another time. I didn’t want to be self-indulgent.

I’ve set many goals, worked hard to accomplish them, but when I do, my “reward” is (more often than not) making new goals.

Sometimes we put off the celebration because the there is still so much left to be done. Sometimes, secretly, we might even wonder if we are worthy of feeling genuine pride because other people do “much bigger things.  Sometimes both.

We need to challenge ourselves and change this habit of holding out on ourselves. We SHOULD make time to celebrate.
